OMG, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical goes down as one of my Favorite musicals of all time. I laughed, I cried, I sang andeven danced in my seat. I honestly did not want the show to end. And no, my friends this is not a sponsored post. I just loved hearing all that music from the 60's and early 70's. It took me back in time and reminded me of the days when my parents would listen to their Carole King albums on their record player and we'd dance and sing with them for what seemed like hours.
If you aren't familiar with Beautiful, it's about the early life and career of legendary singer and songwriter, Carole King. It tells the story of her relationship with her husband and songwriting partner, Gerry Goffin as well as that of fellow writers and best friends, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.
I actually got a chance to meet and talk to actors Becky Gulsvig and Ben Fankhauser before I saw the show. The two play legendary songwriters and couple, Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann in the musical. We talked about why they love the Beautiful musical storyline - why it makes a great date night for folks of all ages and what it's like when the audience sings along to most of the songs in the show.
